Michael D. Geller
In the early eighties Nevada executives became aware that the volume of play on slot machines (and profits) were rapidly overtaking that of table games and by the century's end they would be the industry's chief cash cow. They were correct... in spades!
Today's casinos are dominated by walls of slots of every design. Players have choices of slot keno, slot poker, slot horse races, and other innovations as well as the standard bars-and-bells machines.
Here is a book by a writer who has been a longtime casino host dedicated to answering customer questions with candor based on information and experience.
Geller believes slots players want straight answers Dazzled by dreams of sudden wealth they've been offered schemes and strategies that rarely work. He knows that players have constant decisions to make about strategies and self-control in dealing with the computerized casino environment designed to unbalance him or her.
As in every gamble, there will be winners (a few) and losers (a lot).
This book takes a realistic approach to slots. Some casinos advertise a 98% return while some average a sixty cent return for each dollar invested. One point is stressed: the fact that a machine has just paid a jackpot does not rule out the possibilities that another jackpot might appear on the very next spin. Customers point out "lucky" machines, but to the computer chips one machine is the same as another.
Gellar offers sound advice on managing your gambling dollars, as well as allotted time for play along with the time to quit. He sees slots playing as entertainment... like purchasing a movie ticket. But this is an entertainment that offers a chance to walk away with casino money.
Michael D. Geller, a graduate of the Drama department at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, toiled for many years as a writer/producer/creative marketing consultant in network television in Lost Angeles. After a lifetime of studying gambling, especially gambling ethics in Nevada and other locations, he now lives in South Dakota where he enjoys working as a casino host. He answers customer questions about slot machines.
