The Annapolis governor, Robert Ehrlich in his public speeches has stresses number of times the prospective financial imbuing from which schools could potentially enjoy funding their construction plans, once video slot machines are legalized. Another plan for aiding Maryland's battered schools came from the House Speaker, Michael Busch who has denied any intentions of thwarting Ehrlich's slot plan. This however, allows lawmakers to take upon another venue to bring money for schools in their districts. Still, the clear layout of the proposition remains rather murky.
The contention for 'who gets more money' has become fierce when the Republican governor has promoted his slots plan promising to allocate $157 million for the benefit of school construction. In addition, he assured that slot machines is the ultimate way to resurrect the budget since not only it will yield additional $100 million in the fiscal year, but what is of more importance is that it will unceasingly provide a flow of revenue that could be viably utilized for funding school construction.
Busch's proposal boils down to taking what has already been offered by Ehrlich and pair it with another $60 million extracted from the real estate transfer tax. This transaction leaves $33 million. Those that favor Busch's proposal considering it harmless and efficient contend that the slot plan is a mere scam that needs to be justified in some way or another.
