Slot machines – the political weapon for gubernatorial race
Doug Duncan, the Montgomery County Executive is holding his fingers as he is intent on receiving the post of the Maryland's next governor. He intends to undertake a staunch anti-slot machine position in hope of gaining more city voters. He assumes that his Democratic rival for the 2006 gubernatorial race, Mayor Martin O'Malley, the pro-slots member will be stalled with the approaching General Assembly's slot debate.
Moreover, Duncan has negotiated with a group of city ministers at the Baltimore City Temple turning slots into a political weapon targeting O'Malley. O'Malley maintained that his position on slots has not changed from before three or for years, as he still supports limited slots, but is absolutely against ting it to educational funding. Duncan's stance was that if it's a bad idea, it shouldn't be in the state, at all.
The group of city church leaders, whom O'Malley's would likely to need for his governor campaign, have flanked with Duncan. The Bishop Douglas Miles pointed out that his support for Duncan does not entail that O'Malley has completely lost the back up of religious community, but on the matter of slot machine in Baltimore City, he and his associates will voice rigorous opposition.
