Pro-Slots fever rushes through the Miami-Dade and Broward
Miami-Dade and Broward in the following week will be bombarded by the pro-slots members who will stock voters at every corner before the upcoming slot machine referendum, soliciting the hesitant ones who have not yet made up their mind.
The counter party of slot opponents is suspiciously numb in Miami-Dade, feigning to catch up in their attempt to protest against the proposal of Las-Vegas-style slot machines in local parimutuals. Robin Rorapaugh, the anti-slots leader contended that whatever available resources they have, they would be cast in Broward. Both sides have sent out their forces to Broward.
The pro-slots coalition, supported by the seven local parimutuels will be quite busy with 20 events, written on its agenda, sending out its representatives to a host of Rotary Clubs, homeowners associations and political groups. The key slogan of the group boils down to the fact that slot tax revenues will accrue the state's education fund and tout a wide range of employment opportunities. The pro-gambling media advertisement promises to provide 18,000 job places with $111 million poured into the educational benefits. Skeptics, say the numbers are unrealistically pumped up.
