Gov. Jeb Bush inspired by his recent victory of sparing Miami-Dade County from slot machines, discouraged the pari-mutuel industry in regards to their hopes of ever receiving any Las Vegas-style machines.
He has proposed an alternative suggesting for pari-mutuel sites to agree on receiving video slots, similar to those planted in Indian casinos. The legislature will be highly occupied for another 6 month spelling out the rules and regulatory frameworks for slot machine operation in Broward County. The chief lobbyist for the pari-mutuels revealed recently that it is not what public demands and not what public has polled for. The public wants Las Vegas slot machines, which are featured by larger payouts and believed to lure in more customers.
The pari-mutuel industry revolts, warning that if the governor is to have his way and slots are specified by the legislators accordingly, it would therefore discard the intent of the constitutional amendment., on which the industry spent nearly two years and more than $22 million just to get it through in November.
Bush is concerned that Indians would righteously claim for Las Vegas slot machines, should the pari-mutuels get it.
