Early next week, a slot machine bill, proposed by Governor Robert Ehrlich would be subjected to a poll in the Maryland Senate. According to the Washington Post, members of the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee have smothered the somewhat problematic aspects of the bill, by the amendment which passed on a vote of 11-to-2, in order to avoid the possible inflammations in the House of Delegates.
Some of the compliances made were the location of 15,500 slot machines that would be assigned by the nine-member committee, five of whom commissioned by the governor and four by lawmakers. There would be a certain limitation, specified by the bill regarding the possible slot sites. The machines may be planted at four horse tracks and three other locations.
The man who leads the campaign of slot machine legislation, Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, revealed to the newspaper that the proposed slot bill is full of concessions and compromises.
