A recent report revealed that the Massachusetts state police confiscated three slot machines illegally operated by managers of Spud's, a local convenience store in Holyoke. According to Lt. Thomas J. Murphy, the video slots were installed in a house located in the proximity of Spud's. The slots gaming machines, which were officially licensed and registered as automatic amusement devices, were reportedly designed to record players' bets and payouts.
Initially, the slots were held at the store, but they were later transferred to the house next door, where the police found them, as well as $500 in cash. Some of Spud's clients would enter the adjoining house to play on the gambling machines. Murphy was reported as saying that the police were tipped off about the illegal gambling operation.
