Malaysian Police Officers Crack Down on Illegal Slot Machines
Detectives from the police station of Puchong, Malaysia, recently raided a restaurant that operated illegal slot machines. A group of five agents discovered nine "touch-screen" slot machines in a back-room of the "mamak", a local name for eateries operated by Indian Muslims. The slots, carrying an estimated RM2,000 (~$550) price tag each, were seized and a worker was arrested.
To avoid raising suspicion among the venue's clients, gamblers would enter the facility through the kitchen door and play slots in the adjoining gaming room. Assistant Superintendent Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof of the Puchong Police Criminal Investigation Department was reported as saying that the police detectives were now searching for the mamak's owner.
