According to a recent report, the planned initiative for the construction of a slots casino in Washington, D.C., will not make it to the November ballot.
The proposed 2006 Video Lottery Terminal Gambling initiative sought to legalize gambling and slots operation in the District of Columbia. However, since the political action group promoting the slots proposal failed to gather the required 19,000 signatures for its petition, it will have to wait for the next election.
Although slots promoters were reported as saying that their support recruiters collected as many as 40,000 signatures, apparently only 20,000 belonged to registered D.C. voters. With such a short margin, the group has decided to wait until the January 2008 elections. |
