Californian Tribe to Operate Large Slot Machine Casino
California's Pauma Indian Tribe recently inked a deal with Foxwoods' operators for the construction of a large hotel-casino at the tribe's San Diego reservation. Under the partnership deal, the Californian tribe will join forces with Connecticut's Mashantucket Pequot tribe, Foxwoods operator, in order to develop a large gaming complex offering slots and other casino games. The joint venture reportedly carries a $300 million price tag.
Pauma band's current compact with the state allows it to operate an unlimited number of slots provided that the tribe increases its payments to the state accordingly. Some gaming industry insiders were reported as saying that the planned casino complex, designed to feature 2,000 slot machines and a 500-room hotel, was likely to become one of California's largest casinos.
