A new trend has been gaining momentum in the Las Vegas Strip casinos: glamorous book-signings by bestselling authors. The latest in the series of book-signing events in the "City of Sin" was reportedly held in Foxwoods Resort Casino, where popular author Janet Evanovich kicked off her tour in front of as many as 1,200 fans. By hosting book-signing events, Foxwoods and other Vegas casino operators apparently seek to attract an unusual kind of audience to its gambling venues : avid book readers.
According to Foxwoods spokeswoman Sandra Rios, although such visitors usually avoid spending money on the facility's 7,000 slot machines and other casino games, they also help the gaming business thrive. Rios added that to keep afloat, casinos are forced to extend their offerings beyond slot-machines and table games, and capitalize on other amenities, such as entertainment, retail, beauty parlors and restaurants. Casino book-signing is also turning out to be a good bet for authors and their publishers who are constantly looking for new ways to sell more books.
