Pittsburgh Steelers Object Local Slots Casino Construction
Pittsburgh's Steelers football team recently sent a letter to Pennsylvania's Gaming Control Board in which they reportedly repeated their opposition to Detroit businessman Don Barden's plan to build the Majestic Star slot casino on the North Shore near Heinz Field, the team's stadium. The Steelers argued that they had their own plans concerning land development in the area, including the construction of two office buildings, an amphitheater and a entertainment center.
According to Steelers President Arthur J. Rooney II, the proposed $410 000 slots parlor's proximity to the stadium could hurt the National Football League's interests. Also, the planned casino is likely to generate parking difficulties for football fans.
Barden, however, dismissed Rooney's objections, citing the construction of the Greektown casino near Detroit's Ford Field stadium where the Super Bowl event was held - a case in which the NFL expressed no objections.
