Florida gaming regulators recently publicized draft rules that are expected to govern the operation of the state's future four slots facilities. Among other highly-detailed regulations, the 116-page rule book also covers the licensing process casino operators are required to follow in order to become authorized slot machine operators.
The parimutuel division of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation has yet to hold a final hearing on the slots rules, providing the public and members of the local gaming industry with a last opportunity to express their opinion before the rules take effect.
If there are no legal challenges, the rules are likely to take effect three months after the May 23rd hearing scheduled to take place in Tallahassee. Once these rules are finally adopted, the three racetracks and one jai-alai fronton authorized to operate slots will be able to apply for licenses. The state gaming regulators must either grant or deny an application within 90 days.
