Delaware Slots Racetracks Now Operate 24/7, Install Additional Slot Machines
Delaware's three racetrack slot machine parlors recently completed their first testing period of operation around the clock. Under a new law signed by governor Ruth Ann Minner in February, the state's racetracks are authorized to operate for longer hours and to install as many as an additional 1500 slot machines per establishment. Up to this point, all gambling activities across the state had to cease on Wednesday at 4 a.m.

Although some gaming industry insiders reportedly believe that the state will surely benefit from the additional revenues produced by slot machines in tax dollars, slot machine opponents maintain that expanded gambling in Delaware will further promote the state's social problems, such as gambling addiction. Nevertheless, lawmakers who introduced the slots bill several months ago, took these concerns into consideration by including a provision that makes sure that as much as $1 million is allocated to problem gambling treatment programs.
