Robert C. Devers, a resident of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, recently hit an enormous progressive jackpot of more than two million dollars while playing at a 50-cent slot machine at the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The occurrence is all the more unique and interesting because Devers, who is part Irish, became a millionaire on St. Patrick's Day.
According to Devers, a 51-year-old warehouse employee, he invested $20 in a "Wheel of Fortune"-themed slot machine, before winning the jackpot. When three "Wheel of Fortune" logos appeared on the slots reels, he thought he had won $2,400. However, the actual jackpot was $2,400,506.47!
Casino spokeswoman Katie Dougherty was reported as saying that the win was the Tropicana's biggest since the beginning of 2006. Devers said that he has been visiting the Tropicana venue for about eight years, but that this weekend was his first visit in a year and a half. Devers added that he must now decide whether to collect the slots money in a lump sum or in annual payments of nearly $120,000.
