Slot Machine Truck Driver Dies in Crash
According to a recent report, 21-year-old Andrew Joseph Heyns died after his 2005 GMAC Budget Rent-a-Car 30-foot box truck, which was carrying slot machines, overturned on Rattlesnake Hill, about eight miles north of Laytonville, Arizona. There was one-way controlled traffic for as many as four hours because of the accident.

California Highway Patrol officer Adam Jager was reported as saying that the slots-loaded truck was going too fast on a sharp right-hand curve when it tipped on its side, slid into the northbound lanes, and continued moving for several hundred feet before striking a dirt embankment. Heyns, a resident of Surprise, died on the spot. Heyns was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Justin Ryan Sheakley, Heyns' passenger, who was also not wearing his seat belt and was asleep at the time of the crash, suffered minor injuries. He was taken to Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits for medical treatment. The two men were moving the slot machines from an out-of-state casino back to Arizona. No other vehicle was involved in the crash.
