Russian Journalist Covering Slots Parlor Explosions Beaten Up
Slots2000 recently reported that three almost simultaneous explosions occurred at three small slot machine parlors in downtown Vladikavkaz, the capital of the Russian republic of North Ossetia. As a result of the blasts, two people died, and as many as 21 others were seriously injured. Some police officials reportedly indicated that the bombings might have been the result of a criminal dispute.
Most recent updates on the case have reported that Olga Kiry, a journalist from Russia's Channel One television, was severely beaten up by three police officers when she went to a hospital and tried to film a report on the injured victims of the slots parlor explosions. The three officers identified as having been involved in the beating were detained.
Prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation against one of the officers, a senior lieutenant, who is currently accused of abusing his post and preventing the reporter from carrying out her work. Also, it was reported that North Ossetia Deputy Interior Minister Soslan Sikoyev called Kiry in order to apologize for the officers' inappropriate behavior.
