Pennsylvanian Senator Wants No Slots in Lancaster County
Pennsylvania state senator Noah Wenger recently introduced a proposal to outlaw slots gambling and manufacturing in Lancaster County. Wenger's bill comes a day after announcing a plan to transform the Bulova Technologies facility in Lancaster into a gaming complex operating as many as 5,000 slot machines. However, some Democrats from Harrisburg have expressed doubt on whether or not Wenger's bill will ultimately pass.
Wenger is not alone in his mission to proclaim potential slots casinos illegal in Lancaster County. There are other politicians, such as Senator Gibson E. Armstrong and Senate Majority Leader David "Chip" Brightbill, who support Wenger's anti-slots proposal. However, Brightbill was reported as saying that since Pennsylvania's Governor, Ed Rendell, backs slots operation in the state, it would be rather difficult to get Wenger's bill on Lancaster slots approved.
Nevertheless, on Thursday, several GOP House lawmakers wrote a letter asking the state Gaming Control Board to deny a slot machine operating license to two attorneys seeking authorization to operate the aforementioned 5,000 slots gaming complex. Wenger also argued that preventing slots operation in the county would protect its economy and preserve its pastoral character.
