Officials in Myersville, Maryland, Express Opposition to Slots
Town officials in Myersville, Maryland, are most likely to be the only municipal leaders in the entire Frederick County to follow a move taken by the Board of County Commissioners to limit slots gaming in unincorporated areas. Accordingly, officials banned slots operation on town grounds. Myersville Mayor Wayne Creadick was reported as saying that by complying with the county's general slots ban, the town seeks to express its vehement opposition to slot machines.
However, other municipalities' officials have taken another stand on the matter. Some of them have said that they prefer to wait for decisions to be reached at the next state General Assembly before making any moves regarding slot machines. According to County Attorney John Mathias, the reason behind such a stance is the fact that any future state law could invalidate a local ordinance permitting or forbidding slots operation.
Brunswick Mayor Caroll Jones reportedly said that city officials have not voiced interest in banning slots, maintaining that any legislation passed without a prior decision by the state would be useless. Officials in Middletown have reportedly expressed a similar opinion, adding that city commissioners do not foresee the arrival of slot machines to their little community.
