Hilda Fitch, a resident of Louisiana, recently received the outstanding prize of $1 million for winning a major slots tournament held at Harrah's Las Vegas on November 9th. After outlasting more than 250 participants, the lucky lady was crowned the new National Champion of Slots at Harrah's 11th annual Millionaire Maker tournament.
Fitch, 74, was entitled to participate in the event after winning at a preliminary slots tournament held at a gaming venue, the Horseshoe Casino, in Bossier City, Louisiana. The woman was quoted as saying, “I was shocked, I didn't expect to win. [...] It's a wonderful feeling. I never played in a slot tournament. This was my first time."
This year's Millionaire Maker tournament was first launched at the beginning of 2005. Many slots lovers had already taken part in numerous preliminary tournaments held at different casinos across the nation, in hope to qualify for the $1 million championship. This is the fifth time the event has taken place in Las Vegas.
