Commissioners of Frederick County, Maryland Try to Ban Slots
Reportedly alarmed by the possibility that slots operation might get approved by the upcoming General Assembly, commissioners of Frederick County, Maryland, have tried to bar slots operation. However, failing to obtain unanimity in voting regarding the issue, the board has been limited to restricting slots on the local level, without extending the ban to the county's municipalities.
Nevertheless, at a hearing held last Tuesday, some county residents reportedly said that slots are a reality and that prohibiting slot machine operation would only force them to go outside the state and spend their money in West Virginia and Pennsylvania gaming venues, for example.
Also, the new measure would not stop Montgomery developer William Rickman from constructing a casino in the proximity of Frederick Municipal Airport, on the boundaries of the city. Rickman was reported as saying that he is not yet sure of his plans regarding the aforementioned gaming facility, but he believes that slots would not end up legalized in the near future, as the General Assembly failed to pass them twice already.
