Global Cash Access Inc. to Launch ATMs Dispensing Credit Cards For Slots
Global Cash Access Inc., a Las Vegas-based manufacturer of cash access machines, recently announced the launch of the Electronic Debit Interactive Terminal Housing (EDITH), a machine that prints coupons to be used for playing slots. The device has already gained the approval of Nevada gaming regulators, and is expected to be available at slots casinos as of the last quarter of the current fiscal year.
Much like ATM's, the EDITH stand-alone kiosks provide slots players with instant access to their bank accounts, but instead of giving out cash, the machines dispense bar-coded tickets that players can insert into cashless slot machines. The printed tickets represent credit players can use to gamble.
Tom Sears, executive vice president of business development for GCA, was reported as saying that since 1999, the company has joined efforts with the National Council on Problem Gaming. Both groups share the mutual goal of preventing addictive slots gamblers from having easy access to their bank accounts in gaming venues. The new devices help this aim by letting patrons place individual limits on their cash access.
