Frederick County Commissioners Indecisive Regarding Slots Ban
Commissioners in Frederick County, Maryland, reportedly can not reach a decision whether or not to authorize slots operation in the county's gaming facilities. Since the majority of the municipalities oppose a slots zoning ordinance that would make slots installation impossible, a prohibition by the Commissioners is expected to be perceived as an imposition.
Alarmed by the potential situation, earlier this year, the House of Delegates decided to pass a bill proposing slots legalization in Frederick county. In response, the Board of Commissioners voted to move forward with the zoning amendment. Although the bill was rejected during the Maryland General Assembly, the Commission did not neglect its plans to ban slots.
Commissioner Michael L. Cady, was reported as saying that although he opposes slots in the county, he believes that municipalities are entitled to decide on the matter by themselves. Another Commissioner, Bruce L. Reeder, reportedly announced in advance that he disqualifies himself from participating in the decision. Commissioner Jan H. Gardner revealed that, thus far, she has no idea what her vote will be. At the same time, Commission President John "Lennie" Thompson Jr. said he would definitely support the prohibition of slots. In order to pass the prohibitory measure, the commissioners need four votes out of five to be in favor.
