New Hampshire Racetrack Waits for Slots Authorization
According to a recent report, a casino gambling operation based in Nevada has bought an option to acquire Rockingham Park, a prominent racetrack facility in New Hampshire. Millennium Gaming Inc. reportedly intends to initiate a costly campaign in order to convince state gaming officials to authorize the operation of slots at the facility.
Rockingham Venture, the racing facility's long-time ownership group, announced that it signed a contract with Millennium Gaming Inc., as well as Cannery Casino Resorts LLC, under which it was agreed to return first-class live horse racing to Rockingham Park, among other potential entertainment-related services. Millennium's actual acquisition of Rockingham Park mostly depends on whether or not slots gaming would be allowed at the racetrack.
For years, Rockingham Park management and the three New Hampshire greyhound tracks have been trying to convince state legislative authorities to legalize slots operation at the tracks, albeit unsuccessfully. Callahan, Rockingham General Manager, was reported as saying that although polls frequently demonstrate that state residents do not oppose slot machine installation at the racetracks, there is a need for a corresponding educational program relating to slots gaming.
