According to a recent report, if legislative officials authorize three new slots casinos in the area, the number of slot machines in the Canadian city of Calgary, Alberta, will reach 3,395 units.
Rob Williams, a gambling expert from the University of Lethbridge, was reported as saying that once the slots casinos obtain legal authorization, the local area is slated to become the Las Vegas of the North. Some gambling addiction specialists believe that electronic slot machines, represent the most enticing type of gambling and more casinos might translate into additional social ills.
However, a spokesperson for Aberta Gaming and Liquor Commission, Robyn Keist, supports the slots casino licensing process, pointing to the benefits the local community will enjoy as a result of having more nearby casinos. If Calgary’s proposed casinos are given clearance, the city will collect $435 million in annual revenues from the 4,842 slot machines.
