Slots at Pennsylvania Race Track Expected to Boost Revenues
The future installation of 1,000 slot machines at the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, a Pennsylvania race track, is reportedly expected to boost the racing facility’s revenues. The slots are to be operated by the Mohegan Gaming authority.
According to Lou Ferriero Jr., a long-time racer at the Mohegan Sun, many people have left the racing industry, because the expenses increased while the purses remained the same. The operation of slots at Pocono Downs is reportedly expected to attenuate the financial difficulties the industry and all its players: trainers, owners and drivers.
John Hallett, an owner and trainer, was reported as saying that he is familiar with other race track facilities that have benefited greatly since they started operating slot machines. Among such facilities is Dover Downs, located in Dover, Delaware.
