Playing host to the Mohawk slots casino, the town of Milton, Ontario, recently received its quarterly payment, which this quarter totaled over $1 million from the slot machines venue. According to an agreement between the Indian slots casino and Milton, the city is entitled to a certain percentage of the casino’s revenues.
Thus far, Milton has collected over $35 million in non-tax slots revenue from Mohawk. The casino started operating slots in August, 1999, and has already been visited by more than 8 million gamblers.
Mohawk pays Milton approximately 5% of the gaming facility’s gross revenues for the first 450 slot machines and 2% for any additional machines. The money is distributed by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, part of it being allocated to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care for addictive gambling prevention and treatment.
