South Dakota Governor Rejects Slots Expansion Proposal
South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds recently rejected a proposal by the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribe to install an additional 500 slot machines at their gaming facility in South Dakota. However, the Governor was also reported as saying that he is willing to continue discussions on the matter.
According to tribal chairman, JC Crawford, slots expansion at the aforementioned gaming venue would mean ample economic benefits for his community. The additional slots would result in $17 million in revenues for the Dakota Sioux Casino, 571 job vacancies in northeast South Dakota and thousands of tourists visiting the area from other states.
Crawford also reportedly said that local community generally supports the slots proposal. He mentioned such officials as Watertown Mayor Brenda Barger, the Codington County Board of Commissioners and the economic development group, Focus Watertown.
