Nevada Judge Denies Request to Expand Slots Gaming
Washoe County District Court judge Janet Berry recently backed Reno City Council’s refusal to allow approximately 130 additional slot machines in the Starlite Lanes bowling alley.
The local debate over slots started when the parent company of the Sands Regency Casino & Hotel, Zante, Inc., requested clearance to operate additional slots in the bowling alley. However, City Council declined the request, reportedly basing its verdict on the fact that the bowling alley lacks the necessary zoning to allow gambling.
Consequently, Zante filed an appeal over the slots matter. The company claimed that Council members abused their power by not making a decision based on substantial evidence. Judge Berry rejected Zante’s claim.
