As a part of their effort to solve the state budget deficit issues, some Kansas legislators are looking to authorize the expansion of slots operations in different gambling facilities across the state. The authorization of more slots means more tax money poured into the state budget.
Although slots expansion has always represented a potential source of revenue for Kansas, lawmakers have generally rejected the option of expanding slot machines in the state. This might be due to the fact that there have always been other means to help the state with its financial problems, means which are no longer sufficient to heal the state's budget woes. Kansas legislative authorities are in need of approximately $80 million.
One of the most fervent supporters of slots expansion is Governor Kethleen Sebelius. The Gov. reportedly believes that slots taxes must be allocated to different educational establishments in Kansas. However, since there are many conservative legislators who oppose slots expansion, fearing the social ills it might cause, it is still uncertain whether or not Kansas will get more legal slot machines.
