Broward County State Prosecutor’s Office to File Appeal against Slots Ruling
Following Circuit Judge, Leroy Moe’s, recent ruling to permit slots installation in different gaming venues across the state, the Broward County prosecutor’s office reportedly announced that it would file an appeal on the matter.
Although the office, represented by attorney Arthur ‘Buddy’ Jacobs, counsel to the Florida Prosecuting Attorney’s Association, does not oppose slot machines operation in general, it insists that the legislation on slots must be issued by state legislative leaders taking into consideration best interests of Florida residents. The Office also contends that it is not up to Moe to produce the necessary slots regulation.
Last week, Circuit Judge Moe, ruled that in case either state legislative authorities or the Broward County Commission does not produce any legislation regarding slots until July 1, he will do so himself. It is in opposition to this ultimatum that the State Attorney’s Office will go to court.
