Already in November, Florida voters approved a proposal to allow Broward County to decide independently whether or not to authorize slots installation on the premises of local casinos. However, although Broward residents voted in favor of slots, neither the House nor the Senate has yet been able to reach an agreement regarding slots.
Yet, reportedly, Florida legislative authorities are seeking to reach a sort of compromise so as to decide the future of slots, since there are already several lawsuits pending on the matter. On the one hand, a number of pari-mutuels filed a petition with the courts, asking for intervention in their favor, and on the other, slots opponents demanded that the courts forbid slot machine installation until proper legislation is created by the authorities.
In case the House and the Senate do succeed in coming to an agreement, there might be room for a special session on slots.
