Pennsylvania Searches for Alternatives after Schools Reject Slots Revenues
Since the majority of school districts in Pennsylvania refused to accept a tax relief on property generated by slots revenues, Montgomery County's republican state senator, Stewart Greenleaf, suggested transferring the remaining funds to an already existing tax rebate program for the state's elderly population.
Consequent to school districts' refusal, several bills regarding the use of gambling profits have been presented. One proposal even contended that the Pennsylvania School Boards Association should be obligated to accept the slots money. However, Greenleaf's proposal suggests doubling seniors' income levels and offering property tax rebates of up to $1,200 per year.
No matter what the General Assembly will eventually decide, legislative authorities have made it quite clear that any action will be long in coming.
