Broward Gambling Facilities File Lawsuit against Florida over Slots Issue
It was recently reported that three Broward racetrack facilities, the Hollywood Greyhound Track, Pompano Park Racing, Gulfstream Park and one jai alai fronton, Dania Jai-Alai, filed a lawsuit against the state of Florida. In the lawsuit, the three gaming establishments demanded to be informed of whether or not they are permitted to operate slots on their premises.
Although in November, voters authorized Broward County to decide whether or not to permit slots in its gambling facilities, the 2005 legislature did not produce any regulations regarding this matter.
Concurrently in Tallahassee, "No Casinos," a gambling opposition group headed by Rep. Randy Johnson, filed another lawsuit. The group is demanding that the court forbids slots operations without proper Legislative authorization.
