Broward County Commissioners Take Slots Issue into Own Hands
Although the Florida state legislature failed to approve regulations regarding slots operation in various gambling facilities, Broward County Commissioners are reportedly looking into the option of implementing their own regulations for slot machine installation and operation. If the commissioners succeed in finding a legal way to do this, the money earned from slots will be channeled to the County’s educational programs.
Due to a constitutional amendment authorized by Florida legislators last fall, the commissioners may not get all revenues generated by slots. This amendment demands that all slots revenues be divided statewide. An agreement signed between the pari-mutuel industry and the Florida School Boards Association, which designates thirty percent of the money to Florida's schools, is currently under review.
