  Frederick County, Maryland Opposes Slots
Officials in Frederick County, Maryland are alarmed by the fact that their prohibition against installing slot machines in the county might be functionally reversed by the House of Representatives.

It was reported that the state House of Representatives recently passed a proposal to legalize slot machines in several jurisdictions, including Frederick County. In response, officials from the Frederick Board of County Commissioner sent Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. a letter, objecting the installation of slots in the area.

However, if the state legislators decide to approve the proposal during their next meeting, the prohibition set by the Board will be invalidated. The Board’s only chance to avoid this situation is if the proposal demands that slot machines be established in accordance with each jurisdiction's zoning restrictions. In this particular case, zoning restrictions disallow slots machines in Frederick County.

The Commission’s President, John "Lennie" Thompson Jr., was quoted as saying that the County will not profit from slots in any way.
