Slots May Come to New Orleans International Airport
State Representative Cedric Richmond of New Orleans has proposed a bill to permit the installation of slot machines in Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
If legislators pass this proposal, the New Orleans Airport will be the first gambling facility outside the state of Nevada to have slots. The proposal specifies that no other gaming activity would be held outside the area designated for gambling and that no underage individuals would be allowed to participate.
Providing that the proposal passes, the slots tax will be set at the rate of 21.5% per week. Moreover, all collected earnings will be allotted to upgrading the Airport and decreasing the land fees for different airlines that cooperate with the Airport.
Having the authorization of the Jefferson Parish Council, a vote will be held in order to approve slots gambling in the Airport. Should the proposal be rejected, it will not receive an additional review for the next two years.
