If it looks like Slots, sounds like Slots – it’s a Slot Machine
A new breed of gambling machines has emerged in Massachusetts. The layout of these machines, installed at Marshfield Fair, some restaurants and bars was however, much too reminiscent to the infamous slot machines. The mechanism, operating them, follows essentially the slots design, which features a video screen with three rolling symbols that would begin to stir once the player deposits his 50 cents and presses the play button.
The startling resemblance to slots is apparent when one looks at 7s, lemons, bells, watermelons, and dice flashing on the screen. The winner is the one who comes up with identical symbols on all three rolls. The machine then secretes a sheet of paper that could be redeemed for a cash prize of as much as $500.
Once the machines were examined and tested by the Massachusetts State Lottery, the Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill ordered to curb them quickly due to their superfluous resemblance to slot machines, since slots are prohibited under the law. Lottery officials allegedly withdrew the machines under the pretext of their unsuccessful test with the consumers, but a spokeswoman for Cahill retorted that there was a specific order to remove them, by the state treasurer.
