Pennsylvania is on the verge of commissioning the gambling advisory board that would be responsible for the ultimate site for slots facilities across the state. Mayor Tom Murphy is scheduled to hold a news conference on this regard.
The layout of the board would be derived from a similar group created this spring by Philadelphia’s Mayor John Street. The Philadelphia Gaming Advisory Task Force has 90 days to create a report on the possible effect of the two slot machines parlors on the city. Some of the issues that would be taken into consideration are the traffic congestion, the impact on the restaurant businesses and various entertainment outlets, plus the advantages of the proposed locations.
Up till now, 14 slots licenses were approved: seven at horse tracks, five stand alone parlors including one in Pittsburgh and two in Philadelphia -- and two at resorts.
