Slot machines, as a means for non perishing economy and school boost have been nothing but smart marketing move. The trend of “yes for better schools with slots” was begotten essentially on a par with the same ethic that suggests chubby house wives to intake snacks for thigh reduction, or a 20-something slacker to drink a beer to transform into a charming womanizer. Slot machines were never about education.
Sen. Geller, a Democrat from Hallandale Beach over the last week has become the gambling industry’s bully boy, when 50 percent tax on slots revenues were asked by Beverly Gallagher of the Broward School Board to be implemented into schools. His venerable expression was suddenly distorted by relentless rage as if the request was a personal affront to him.
Obviously, legalization of slots was loosely related to schools, otherwise the Broward County School would not have been fended in this way. This issue appears to be rather murky and of much greater intricacy than meets the eye. Geller who wants merely 30 percent for education, stirred up a fierce debate when Gallagher suggested 50 percent as if the difference would come out of his own pocket. He bewared the School Board not to mingle too much in the slots business matters they know nothing about.
